Euro-Piattaforme. Scienza, tecnologia ed economia. Una connessione cruciale per l'Italia

edited by Alberto Quadrio Curzio, Marco Fortis and Alberto Silvani il Mulino - 2020

Techno-scientific platforms are a modality of structured interaction between different subjects that share a scientific theme and common technological interests connected to the economy and society. The combination of these relationships, not always formalised or institutionalised, has generated a "system" of cases that are difficult to fit into established frameworks. But the growing importance of these platforms now requires an analysis of the links between political economy and techno-science in terms of consolidation and prospects for the future in Europe. If we take the example of CERN, its technological infrastructure, governance and the multi-state community that supports it, it becomes necessary to clarify which financial-organizational model can provide project paradigms. The same is true for the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, the European Space Agency and other organizations that are less well known but just as important, for example big data and artificial intelligence hubs. Thus for planning new initiatives for the program «Horizon Europe» of the European Commission and the European Parliament, the perspective of a new framework is crucial.
