14 settembre 2015 - Is technological change a thing of the past?
A number of eminent scholars have in recent years expressed the concern that the age of rapid technological progress has come to an end as the easy inventions have all been made, and further progress will be increasingly difficult. The opposite is true: we are entering an age of accelerating innovation, in which both production and consumption will change faster than ever. The basis for this prediction is the historical analysis of the factors that led to accelerating technological change in past times. The very same factors that accounted for rapid technological progress in the past can be shown to hold with much greater force today, and hence it is to be expected that the twenty-first century will experience even more dramatic and life-changing innovation than the twentieth.
